The Chelsea Sessions (SourMashUSA Records) produced by Phil Gammage represents Claudia's recording debut, an evocative recreation of a spirit of pop times gone bye where the ultra-sophisticated rubs shoulders with the innocent and wistful and both could blend into a seemless pure pop meld.
While the identity of Claudia herself may be a bit of mystery, the immediate appeal and grace of her singing is not. This single release consists of two cover versions: Lou Reed's "I'll Be Your Mirror" and "The End of the World" made a hit by Skeeter Davis back in the early 60's. Claudia is much more than a mere 60's revivalist though. She is inhabited by the spirit of the time, and the material, bringing to it a slightly pan-European sounding class that gives a very modern edge to classic era pop material. File alongside your Serge Gainsbourg/Bardot/Birkin material. If Austin Powers were throwing a party, he'd have the Claudia single on the stereo. Yeah baby.
In 2008 after a period of repose and concentration dedicated to her pursuits in the worlds of cinema and television, Claudia re-emerged in the recording studio to record five new and vital songs.
Always a premier song stylist, Claudia chose well in recording compositions by such diverse song writers as Kurt Cobain, Parker Dulany, and PreFab's own Phil Gammage. Masterfully produced by Gammage these songs capture the essence of who Claudia is (at this we can only speculate as she is an enigma wrapped inside a mystery) and where she is going. Aided by some of New York's crack session musicians , these new songs are an aural and audio delight. We are presenting them to you for your listening pleasure exclusively at the PreFab Group website.
Claudia herself is a nonassuming and surprisingly down-to-earth artist. Despite having kept a low public profile since joining the PreFab galaxy of artists, she is an important supporter and friend to many creative souls in such various fields as music, painting, writing, and dance. She is just as likely to be found at a gallery opening to support a visual artist friend as she is at a poetry reading to support one of her many writing friends.
"The best way for me to communicate by expression is through my workmy art." Claudia recently told the European magazine Rock and Folk. "Expression through art is such a human emotion and through it one can connect with another person in a way that is so special and deep. Pop music for me is a wonderful pallette in which I can paint through music my innermost feelings and ideas. For me there is no other way that I can make such a direct connection."
